Congratulations to Dan Silver, MD, PhD, Associate Professor of Medical Oncology and Director of Basic Science and Research in Medical Oncology, for receiving the “Director’s Award – Outstanding Member” at the recent Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center at Jefferson Health (SKCC) Member Retreat, held at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia.
Silver, who is also the leader of the Breast Cancer Program at the SKCC, plays an active role in overseeing and shaping all aspects of the program, from its administrative activities to its scientific projects and future direction. He also helps cancer center investigators translate their basic research findings into clinical interventions, assists them with grant submissions and management, and supervises recruitment of new Breast Cancer members.
In addition, Silver facilitates interactions and collaborations between program members and medical oncologists, other physicians, and basic scientists within the SKCC. In conjunction with the Breast Cancer Program co-leaders, he organizes program meetings and other program-specific presentations and events, and participates in the granting of developmental awards.
He received his award from Karen Knudsen, PhD, Director of the SKCC, based on the following criteria:
- Implementing novel strategies in the Breast Cancer Program
- Fostering a program of inclusion and excitement wherein breast cancer researchers and clinicians work together to advance understanding and treatment of disease
- Infusing a “can-do” spirit into innovative approaches for the Breast Cancer Program
“Dr. Silver has continually demonstrated that he has the knowledge and skills to be a fantastic leader of the Breast Cancer Program, so I am honored to present him with the 2018 ‘Outstanding Member’ award,” Knudsen said.
