Congratulations to Wm. Kevin Kelly, DO, Professor of Medical Oncology and Director of the Division of Solid Tumor Oncology, for receiving the “Director’s Award for Impact” at the recent Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center at Jefferson Health (SKCC) Member Retreat, held at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia.
Kelly, who is also the leader of the Prostate Cancer Program and Associate Director of Clinical Research at the SKCC, is an internationally respected clinical researcher and leader in the genitourinary oncology field. He has expertise in drug and biomarker development in prostate and bladder cancer and has been instrumental in defining the use of many novel therapies and biomarkers in patients for all stages of prostate cancer.
Since joining Jefferson, he has developed disease-specific research domains in each major area of solid tumor oncology and has increased the number of investigator-initiated trials. Kelly also received funding to join the Prostate Cancer Clinical Trials Consortium (PCCTC).
He received his award from Karen Knudsen, PhD, Director of the SKCC, based on the following criteria:
- Developing innovative clinical trials for patients with cancer
- Displaying strong leadership of the Prostate Cancer Program (which was recently rated “Outstanding” by the National Cancer Institute)
- Restructuring and revitalizing the clinical trials operation at Jefferson to establish SKCC as one of the top centers nationwide for accrual of cancer patients to clinical trials
- Striving to reduce barriers to care in the underserved populations within Philadelphia
“Overall, Dr. Kelly has proven that he is an exemplary leader within the Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center and very much deserving of this award,” said Knudsen.
