On September 29, 2010 there will be a celebration to mark the 15th anniversary of the first transplant performed by the Bone Marrow Transplant Program at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. Under the leadership of Dr. Neal Flomenberg, who established the BMT program at Jefferson in 1995, there have been approximately 650 transplants performed to date. When the BMT Unit opened in 1995, 4 beds were opened now the Unit has grown to 12. During the last 15 years there have been exciting new therapies to care for patients with hematologic malignancies and those undergoing marrow or stem cell transplant. The Bone Marrow Transplant program at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital strives to help define the field and to advance the state-of-the-art for the care of patients undergoing transplantation. Newer efforts in haploidentical transplantation have placed Jefferson at the leading edge of the field. We salute the courage of our patients and the support of their friends and family over the years.
